Keep Future Owners In Mind
Everyone wants to make their house a home.
Adding personal details and design features can really tell someone who you are and make you smile every time you see it. But keep in mind that just because you are smiling at it, that doesn’t mean everyone else is.
Customizing a house during a remodel project is always fun because what you say goes. However, what happens when you want to go sell your house? Are the features you have as appealing to the mass public? This is why people need to be cautious when it comes to deciding what they are going to remodel and how the finished product is going to look.
Now don’t get me wrong, everyone should have the option to pick their cabinets, wall colors, tiles, plumbing fixtures, etc. and that is perfectly fine! The features I am talking about pertain more to wine cellars, kids’ playrooms or any other custom item.
You also want to make sure not to remove any features in your house as well. If you don’t use your fireplace and would rather have more of an open concept between your kitchen and your living room, that is great but you may want to talk with your contractor about moving the fireplace.
You never know, the next owner may be a “cuddle up with a good book in front of the fireplace” type of person.
