We now live in an age where everything is accessible from the internet and you can even do your grocery shopping online. However, it is not always the best option to purchase everything online, especially when it comes to building materials.
Most people are looking to remodel their home at the least expensive price point possible (which is completely understandable), however you must understand that less expensive typically means lower quality.
Let’s look at an example: you are remodeling your bathroom and you found a sink faucet that is half the price than what was in the initial bid from the contractor. The contractor installs the faucet, but you find that not long after that, the faucet starts leaking. This happens way more often than you would think.
When you get a bid from a contractor, they are trying to provide you with materials they can put faith in and will stand the test of time. Yes it might be a bit more expensive, however contractors usually get a discounted price from vendors they work with on a regular basis. Knowing you’re getting a higher quality item for a lower price is hard to compare to something you found at a big box store or even something online.
Contractors will also typically give you a guarantee on the work that they provide you, but if you are choosing something outside what the contractor is comfortable with, then this guarantee will most likely not apply to these items.
Always be sure to discuss alternative options with your contractor and ensure you are not doing something that could be disastrous in the long run.
