Communication

This blog may seem odd for a remodeling contractor’s website, but effective communication is the cornerstone of human interaction, driving everything from personal relationships to global business deals. It's a complex interplay of verbal and nonverbal cues that can make or break any situation. But what truly constitutes effective communication? This blog is intended for both parties involved (the contractor and the homeowner), and things you as a homeowner should look for when interviewing contractors for your renovation. Active listening is very important from a homeowner's perspective. You want to make sure your contractor understands what you are wanting by repeating what you have told them. Both parties involved should also keep the language simple. Don’t overcomplicate the process by “getting in the weeds” when describing what you are wanting. A contractor should also avoid using industry specific words that might confuse you. They might be trying to show how knowledgeable they are, but if you as the homeowner do not know what they are talking about then it is just a waste of time. On that same subject, if you are confused or are not sure about something – speak up! Make sure that you feel comfortable with the person that is going to be in your house for the foreseeable future and someone you know you can trust and rely on to do the job you just described to them. The better the communication you have with your contractor, the more satisfied you will be with the result and the journey that gets you there.
