Reputation & References
Finding the right contractor can be difficult and some people might tell you to avoid a home renovation all together because of the experience they had, but your experience will depend on the contractor and the work you choose to have done. First and foremost, ask your friends and family if there is anyone they know or anyone they would recommend. The number one thing in finding a contractor that you will have a good experience with is someone that you will get along with. If it is someone in your social network, they most likely share a lot of the same social interests, hobbies, etc. that will make it easy to get along with them on a personal level. Although it is important to get along with your contractor, you also want to make sure they can do quality work. Reaching out to other professionals such as realtors, architects, interior designers, or even anyone who does work as a subcontractor such as a plumber, electrician, cabinet maker, countertop installer, etc. Of course, there are all the online tools available to you such as reputable review sites, the contractor’s website, project galleries, or even the Better Business Bureau, but the internet can only take you so far. Don’t be afraid to interview contractors for your renovation just like you would if you were hiring someone at your place of business.
